I am going to briefly describe the plot and meaning of each book before I get on to describing the contrast. Macbeth is a play written by William Shakespeare. It may have been one of his most risky plays he has written to date as the king is killed in the play, and the play was primarily written for the king.

A Christmas Carol is a novel written by Charles Dickens. The story is set in England during the Victorian era and, raises awareness around the poverty homelessness and selfishness that was a problem around the time.

It follows the character Ebenezer Scrooge. Scrooge begins the novel as an extremely intolerant, ignorant angry man. As the story progresses we begin to understand that there are many layers to his persona and the reasons that makes him the way he is.

From the get go Scrooge has shown himself to be a horrible selfish person who is incapable of demonstrating compassionate acts of any kind. Scrooge has no awareness of comprehension about what kind of lifestyle that the less fortunate have to endure.

But from that selfish act there is significant contrast in the action he makes towards the end of the play. He decides to do most selfless deed anyone could carry out on Christmas day. His contrast from selfishness to selflessness is definitely an interesting transition for the reader to witness.

Amidst the 1st couple of pages, undeniable hints were given that would suggest that Scrooge is not a character that we are not supposed to like. It is apparent that Dickens does not like Scrooge too.

The image depicted to us by Scrooge is neither flattering nor complimenting. I immediately associate Scrooge with someone that I would generally avoid. Instead I would assume that he is a genial, sociable person.

Realistically this intensity of contrast within a human being can only be achieved by a fictional character. But then again, most people are not as extremely selfish as Scrooge is, so this novel can still prompt the reader to self-improve.Start studying Famous Books and their Authors.
